“When I was little, the caribou used to stretch out from lake to lake until all those mines opened. A bunch of savages, they brought a bunch of people towards our land. And nowadays, we can’t see no more caribou now. All those white people, a bunch of savages came over and took over our land. We can’t even go nowhere now. All we got to do is to sit in this town. Nothing. The government completely cut us off from our land, our way of living. No way, no how, we’re not going to see those caribou walk across the lake. No caribou we see now, ever since the mines opened.”
