“The caribou, they came down for us. Like, I heard stories when elders say we were poorly. We were surrounded and we had no food. And it became, like, something struck down to the earth. And they said it was caribou. And the caribou said, he said, ‘this is for the people’. And I always hear those stories from them – that’s how it came down to the earth, then he told every little thing about it. Like what you should do and what you should not do. And our clothing and our sinew and stuff, for our boots or for anything. Nowadays we use drums and all those kinds of things, and what the caribou said? ‘Use my body for everything’, and now we do to this day.”
“I think, um, I forget who made it. I think it’s from Celine. Celine King. She made this for me. She’s like my elder, my grandpa’s girlfriend. And she made this for me when I was a boy and she gave it to my mom. I was young, probably like three or four years old maybe. This is just for me. And she, my mom, has put it on for me. This is caribou hide as well, and this is all caribou. Now I give it to my son and fit him perfectly, and just keep it going, keep it going.”
