“The caribou is very important. We grew up with it and our parents, when they raised us, they were always on the land travelling and caribou was the main thing we ate. Without eating caribou meat we, and when I was sick, I really wanted caribou meat. We’re not used to this white man food. Caribou is our traditional food, and when we don’t have it, we crave it. After I came back from the hospital, all I wanted was caribou. It’s our food, we grew up with it, we can cook it all kinds of ways. It makes us feel good, it makes us feel healthy.”
